Her fingers started messing with the fabric of Ulric’s shirt around his waist, simply out of nerves. Looking around until she caught sight of where he was pointing, Mira nodded. They had to start somewhere. “Seems like a good place to start, I’d say.”
Mira bit her lip. Looking around the store, she didn’t intend to be this nervous about it. Why was she so nervous? Mira supposed it was just a bit overwhelming, and seeing people, couples with their babies walking around. She eyed some merchandise as they walked over until they were at the high chairs. “Probably needs one of these, huh?”
Being here, with everyone and their babies walking around, was just driving the point home that he really did have someone other than Gail waiting for him back home. Called back to reality when Mira speaks up, Ulric has to remind himself to pay attention, nodding once he realizes what she’s asked.
“Uh, y-yeah. Can’t keep holding him during mealtimes. Kinda makes it difficult, you know?” he answers, joking weakly.
The tugging on Ulric’s shirt slows, hearing him talk. Listening, she nodded. “Well doesn’t that sound hard? This’d probably make things easier. But, yeah…maybe we should leave the bigger things for last? Maybe-…oh!” Mira spotted a tray of hand-held baskets, briefly letting go of Ulric to pick one up. “We could use use this for…y’know baby food and other things.” She thought, walking back, immediately settling her arm around him again.
“Do you two need any help?” An employee kindly asked as she noticed the two of them standing in the aisle.
“Uh…” Mira looked up to Ulric, wondering what to say as she bit the inside of her lip.
Nervous, he takes Mira’s free hand. “Uh… we’re kinda new to this, so…” Having some sort of help would be good, right? Glancing over at Mira, Ulric grins nervously. “Some help would be great.”
“Oh, shopping for your newborn?” The woman asked.
Mira blushed as she squeezed Ulric’s hand. A year old, Blue is one year old. So Mira shook her head with a nervous smile. “No, actually…uh…he’s a year old. His birthday’s coming up, so…” Mira tried to make up a story as best she could. “We wanted to buy him all new stuff. Y’know, so he’d have all the right things that a one year old needs…” She took a glance to Ulric, wondering if the lady was buying into it.
“Oh, you’re baby is lucky to have such caring parents! Are you looking for anything in particular?” As it seemed the woman bought the story, Mira looked back to Ulric, still blushing. “Uh…f-food?”
